What INGV says
Weather is not enough: the volcano's activity and ordinances decide if and where you can go up. Here is the latest bulletin, copied without interpretation.

Six checks to make
A few things that make the difference between a great day and a problem.
Check the official status
Read the latest INGV-OE bulletin and any VONA notice: if the activity changes, the rules change too.
Check ordinances and access
Access to high altitudes and craters is regulated by ordinances that can change quickly. Ask the cable car, the Park or a licensed guide.
Confirm the cable car
Operation depends on wind and weather. Check the schedule before arriving at Rifugio Sapienza.
Choose the right window
Use the hours with favourable weather and come back with a margin before sunset: at altitude it gets dark and cold quickly.
Dress for the altitude
At 3,000 m it is much colder than in the valley (see the values above): layers, windproof jacket, boots, sunglasses, hat and water.
Rely on a guide
For the summit area and routes on lava terrain a licensed volcanological guide is recommended. See the hikes.
These notes are general and do not replace the rules in force or the advice of a licensed guide. If in doubt, don't go up.
